What Colors To Use While Fishing.

When it comes to crappie fishing, there are 3 things that you must contemplate. Water clarity, current weather and fishing pressure.

Water Clarity: Just like humans driving in the fog or pouring rain is hard to see, fish have the same problems in different water clarity. In the south where i live, heavy rains will inandate local reservoirs and lakes with the soupiest, muddiest water you have ever seen( see pic). At this time your bright colors chartruese, pinks, neon colors, orange, yellow will work in letting the fish be able to see a color better. Adding flash with under spin blades like roadrunners or other spin blades lures will add vibration to entice the fish to bite. presentation my need to be slowed down. spider rigging is very effective as new incoming water will have the fish on the move for cover.Clear to light stained, lure color will change to a more natural presentation look. Black/Silver, Brown, Black, blue, watermelon are more your natural bait color look and will show up better in these clearer waters than your bright neon style colors. Tandem , laminated colors of dark and neon will work. Look at it like this. when fish are on the hunt for food, they strike from below, crappies, bass, bluegills, etc. a lite, neon color will show up lighter from below against the upper water light to where a darker color will show up darker up above against the lighter water up above.

Weather: Rain, Thunderstorms, windy weather, incoming fronts, sunny days, over cast days all have there place for fishing in. Incoming fronts will usually put the fish on the bite before the storm. During inclement weather, high winds or thunder, cold fronts , it will drive fish deep for cover. Getting these fish to bite depends on how long the weather last. Be safe when fishing incoming weather. Sunny and overcast days are better for fishing. Sunny days may push fish deeper due to how bright the upper water column is to where over cast and partly cloudy days are almost the prime fishing days allowing fish to move thru all the columns of water feeding and moving as they please. Lure presentation will depnd on your water clarity.

Fishing Pressure: One of the worst things to see when you pull up to the lake at the ramop or the bank you want to fish is a mega load of people fishing. i have pulled up on ramps before and found 60 boats in front of me, 40 minute wait times , boats coming in behind you because the fishing has turned on. This to will drive the fish deep to big cover or creek/ river channels to hade from pressure. Going deep means multi color dark lures. My favorite at this type of fishing are chartruese/black, dark blue/white, pink/black, purple/yellow, red yellow. these give the best of both worlds for the fish for dark colors and bright. All this put together will hopefully help you catch more fish when you come up against these issues in the future. Tight Lines
