Hot Summer Time Fishing

ree

When the low spring time temps start to climb into the unbearable stage and you want to hunker down in the A/C, the fish are trying to do the same by move deeper into the water column. Crappies and bass will move to deeper water near or in cover to find cooler water. Water temps will be very different from surface to deeper depths. i have seen temp differences of 10-12 degrees from 0-30 ft in the hottest part of the summer. these fish will move along channels, edges, drop offs where they hunt for fish or look for cover. Usally when its this hot, the best times are the first 3-4 hour of the day or the hour before sincet when the high sun doesn't keep the fish deep. Over cast and cloudy days will help the fish move up closer to mid depth water. Same days of incoming fronts or inclement weather will also help as it brings fish into shallower water to look for moving bait. Bait fish will do the same as their predators. As always rotate your baits to see what the fish want.
