Hot Summer time fishing.

When the bright summer sun is at its highest and the temps are swinging in the mid 90's to above 100, fish are one of the hardest species to catch. most fish will spread out over deeper water to cooler water to escape high temps. temperatures at the surface depending on your location may reach the mid 90' but just 10'-20' below the surface could be in the low 80's to upper 70's. Look for deep water flats near river channels or ledge drop offs near channels, creek channels from inlets or brush piles, trees or there obstacles that provide shade in deeper water. Morning and late afternoon, the fish will be up feeding shallower the most with mid day feeding in the deeper water. Open water presentations can be anything from pushing baits, slow spider rigging, long lining crank baits and jigs. Baits to use in open water should be flashy from under spins , bright crank baits and sound. Boat around looking and marking fish, channels, ledges and brush that are holding fish or where fish are moving back and forth looking for food. Vary your depths of baits from just above the fish to just below. A lot of times the bigger fish will be at the bottom of schools away from your smaller juvenile fish but will be picker at what they bite. Singlepole fishing over brush piles, trees and attractors are also good in the hot summer as you can pick and choose what fish you can go after "most times". Just changes baits and colors to find what they want.
