Winter Time lures

When i moved south to Mississippi, i thought i had left my ice fishing techniques behind to try new crappie techniques. But i soon found out, my winter time open water fishing never changed. So i dug out the little ice fishing tackle box and started using the 2 best lures that worked for me in Iowa for crappie. The Swedish Pimple and the Rapala Jigging lure. Both can be used with or without bait. The Swedish Pimple- this lure is a small jigging spoon that has been around longer than i have have been living. I was first introduced to it fishing a lake as i wasn't catching anything. A guy fishing next to me gave me one and from there i always have a few in the box for those times when all other lures are not catching. They can be fished with wax worms, meal worms or the pinched off head of minnow. Action is jigging up and down slowly or lifting up and letting fall 6-8". just about all fish will bite this lure including catfish( vibration for them is the key). The Rapala Jigging lure- this lure is from the Rapala family if jerk bait lures, but this lure has a different action to it. It to can be used with wax worms and minnows. The lure is weighted up to from 1/4 oz to 7/8 ox, 1 1/2" to 3", and a abundant number of colors to your liking. The action is a lift and flutter action. Once you you lower it to your desired depth, you lift the lure and let it drop. The wings on the lure will make it flutter sideways when lifting and flutter sideways whaen you let it drop down giving its action. Both lures are best used over cover or drop offs where fish will congregate in the winter time. Look for both lures at most fishing tackle stores. Tight Lines.
