How to fish in the spring

It's always such a big secret in the spring from most fishermen I have spoken with about how to fish in the spring from post-winter to pre-spring. Fish are still in a lethargic stage in the spring in the north after ice-off. On cold days, you will find fish schooled up in deeper water near channels, creek beds, and drop-offs as the water is warmer there than up in shallow water. But as the water warms, fish will move up shallower to feed on baitfish as they move shallow too. Baits should mimic the size of the bait, which will be a small to medium size. Also, look for any cover near areas coming from these deeper areas as fish will congregate around this cover, especially flooded trees as they absorb heat in the trees. Slow single pole jigging or slowly spider rigging thru cover with small baits are the best. T est adding minnows or scent to your baits for added movement.
