Fishing The Weather

Updated: Nov 18, 2024

This is one of those subjects you can ask 100 different fisherman and get 100 different answer. Is there a right answer? Is there a wrong answer? I grew up fishing for catfish. When there was a incoming front in the summer, we went fishing as it put the fish on the bite. Then when the storm blew thru, we waited a day to let the fish settle down and went again fishing the running water into the area. But crappies are a different species. Most of the time( not all) crappies will go deep before, during and after the storm sometime for days as they hide due to the noise of rain and thunder over head. Test this when in a boat. bang on the boat and watch fish scatter even in deeper water. Most pan-fish can feel when a front or storm is coming and move whee they feel is safe.During a storm, precaution is essential when fishing. But after a front or storm, i would give crappies a 2 day window to get back to there normal movment. Cold fronts or high pressure systems will keep fishing stagnant depending on how long it is there.
