Fall crappie and bass fishing

Updated: Oct 24, 2024

when September falls and October begins, fish start there fall patterns and migrations to there winter holding grounds. Fall spells the onset of cooler days, cooler water and fish feeding frenzys and any part of the day. Fish will congregate off lake points, main lake channel humps and cove creek channels in search of food. they wont gorge themselves but they will et more to put weight on for when the water cools down and fish tend to get more lethargic. Good lures are jigs with flash like under spins and darker colores. Alot of times I have found your browns, oranges, rootbeers, blacks and blues will work as they mimic schools of bait fish such as shad, minnows and other small bait fish moving to deep winter waters. Presentation can be from medium speed spider rigging and long lining to agressive single pole fishing around deep to middle depth areas with cover or channels as the fish will be moving thru these areas looking for bait to feed on. Other ways are slip bobber with live bait over cover. Matching the bait is key for this where medium to large minnows(2"-3") or small shad(2"-3") will work as big baits will most times draw big fish and weed out he smaller ones. Also these are the times when starting after the sun has come up with over cast and partly cloudy working well to catch fish all day. Days with incoming fronts will also trigger a feed as there may be times during the front they may not feed. And at these times when alot of others are on the lake fishing, dont be shy to follow the crowd and fish around in those areas. Where more boats are, people tend to catch more fish. Tightlines.
